WASEH Project
About WASEH Project
The WASEH project aims at providing and improving the quality of drinking water at the household level thereby decreasing incidents of water borne diseases. The project area is characterized by lack of clean drinking water. The rock formation and topography of the area unfairly disadvantages the residents in this aspect and drilled water sources have proven to be too hard for domestic use. The area has no rivers and depends on earth pans and a few boreholes as a source of drinking water. The same water source is also for livestock use. This has resulted in high prevalence of diarrhoeal diseases and high cross infection rates
The provision and improvement of drinking water will be done through adoption of appropriate technologies for rainwater harvesting, provision of piped water from the borehole and establishment of water kiosks. Rehabilitation of water points will also be undertaken to benefit the livestock. A total of 5,000 persons will be targeted. In addition, a water quality intervention at the point-of-use will be implemented to ensure that contamination of drinking water during collection or handling at home is eradicated.
The project will also address household sanitation issue though development and training in establishment and use of latrines.
